The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has launched the Mega Vaccination Center 2025, set up in Parking 3 of the University Olympic Stadium, located in Ciudad Universitaria. The site will be operational from Monday, November 10, to Friday, November 14, from 09:00 to 15:00, and will offer 100,000 free doses of vaccines against COVID-19, influenza, pneumococcus, and MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), available to the general public. The head of the General Directorate of Health Care (DGAS), Gustavo Adolfo Olaiz Fernández, explained that the goal is to administer “25,000 vaccines to prevent COVID-19, the same amount to avoid influenza, and 50,000 more against pneumococcus and MMR”. He emphasized that access is open to anyone who presents an official ID or a vaccination card in the case of children. The doses are administered by personnel from IMSS, ISSSTE, and Pemex, with the support of university interns. During the inauguration, the Secretary of University Services and Community Attention, Fernando Macedo Chagolla, reminded everyone that “vaccination is the most important preventive health tool we have” and invited the university community and the general public to participate. He highlighted that the initiative is the result of joint work between UNAM, the Mexico City Health Secretariat, and federal health institutions. The head of the capital's Health Secretariat, Nadine Gasman Zylbermann, reiterated that “vaccines are safe, effective, necessary, and free,” and stressed that their simultaneous administration helps prevent hospitalizations and deaths during the winter season. University authorities also reminded that vaccination modules will be set up in preparatory schools, faculties, and schools of UNAM to facilitate access to the vaccines.
